Lyons has an astronomy club that meets every Friday after a new moon. See Nenacstars for dates and times. After the meeting we go to either a rural site with a 20" reflector telescope for observing or the Lost in Space Observatory in town with a 11' Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. This observatory also serves as a set for the observatory on the spaceship Andromeda. I built my observatory in my backyard in 2012 and the telesope is mounted on a concrete column with the observatory built around it. The roof slides off on a track with a winch. The telescope mount is computerized for quick location of celestial objects.
