Cosmic Films Studio occupies the former Lyons theater building. The theater was built in 1947 and had a 320 seat auditorium with two glass windowed balconies that served as cry rooms for parents with young children. It served as a theater until 1985 when it finally closed. After that, it was bought by the owners of the furniture store next door to expand their showroom and the auditorium floor was leveled from the sloping floor of the theater. In a later ownership change, the building was used as a construction business, until sold in 2014 when it was converted into a movie studio. The ceiling that was lowered for the furniture store was removed so the full original height of the 14' high ceiling was exposed. The last owner who used it as a theater had removed the projection room equipment in 1985 and had stored them in his garage in another town. When he learned I had bought the building he sold all of that back to me and I've restored the projection room and lobby to the way it originally looked. Future plans are to restore and hang the original theater marquee again, I had bought it when the theater closed and had it hanging in my garage since the 1990s. I had even saved all my movie calendars from when I was a projectionist and now display them in the lobby. This building has always been special to me, at first just going there as a kid to watch adventure movies, then when I was 13 I got a job there as the projectionist and had that job all through high school. The building has now come around full circle, as a place that once was the final stop where movies were shown, to a place where new movies are created.
