When the Lyons theater closed in 1985, I hated to see it disappear completely so I ended up buying some things that were still left in it and used them to build a little home theater in my basement. The seats were the original Lyons theater seats and have been wired with aisle lights plus the floor is sloped to the same pitch as the old theater. The fabric on the walls and some fixtures and front doors in my lobby also came from the Lyons theater. The interior design of it is more like the atmospheric movie palaces of the 1920s which suggested an open courtyard with stars in the ceiling. The proscenium arch was inspired by the Paradise theater in the Bronx. Since I used to work as a projectionist at the old theater while I was in high school, I included a very small projection booth, although the projector is now digital. There is a small stage behind the curtains and a steep stairs that exits through a hidden door in the library bookcase.
