My house was built in 1906 by Charles McMonies who also built a department store downtown. Since the house was built a few years past the Victorian era, it is sometimes referred to as a Princess Anne house which is a simpler style Queen Anne house. I bought it in 1990 and tried to restore it to it's earlier condition, including putting back older light fixtures, push button light switches, and replacing some modern trim with salvaged correct trim. I did add on to it to create a parlor and replaced the crumbling brick foundation with a full basement, as well as rewiring it and replacing the plumbing. Originally the house had gas lighting until wired for electricity in 1915. The house still uses a boiler and hot water radiators for heat. I did turn one room into a library and as homage to old mystery movies put in a hidden door in the bookcase that leads down to the backstage of the theater. To landscape the yard I reused brick and limestone blocks from the basement plus other salvaged materials.
