This episode was inspired by the dark Film Noir movies of the 1940s, with their low key lighting, voice over narration, and with bleak fatalistic overtones of dispair and madness and alienation from society. They also exhibit an existential acceptance of random, arbitrary occurrences as being the determining factors in life. After the 1950s that genre is now considered to be Neo-Noir. Actor Katie Otten returns to the series as Lydia, the daughter of Wolfgang Spiegel, a scientist obsessed with opening a portal to a parallel dimension, and is played by Patrick Lambrecht. I chose the name of Wolfgang Spiegel since in German, gang means path or journey and Spiegel is the German name for mirror. This episode shows the first use of the spacepod, when it leaves the larger spaceship to land on the planet. A full size and miniature spacepod were built for filming. Filming started on October 18, 2021 and finished in early November which was a good time to catch the fall leaves turning. There are a few hidden Easter eggs clues to what the next episode is about, one is the painting and postcard by the intercom in the library. There's another postcard used as a bookmark in the lab and there is also the comic book, Black Cat Mystic, seen in the spacepod.
